As you know by now, my build time is very limited, so I do projects that I realy want to, instead of entering competitions (wish I had time for it all, though, as you guys are doing great work for the Arnhem one)
Anyway, I have started on my ambitious Vietnam dio. Here are some of the kits I'll use:
I have done a rough plan on 'Paint'
And I've selected my base. It is A2 size. I've sketched the layout onto it as well.
Will keep you updated. |

Thanks Alex, that's the idea: People, animals, vehicles, Tropical foilage, water, tarmac and Vietnam red dirt. I've started on the two ACAVS, but there's still lots of work left |

Alex, I hear you I read Shep Paines foreword to Mark Bannerman's figure painting book. As he says - remember it's a hobby and it is supposed to be enjoyable, so don't sweat the small stuff. Sometimes difficult to remember, though.
Yes, I wanted something with different levels and textures. Most of my previous efforts were urban, so I'm a bit tired of old red brick buildings.
I will have to scratch the two water buffalo, though |

Some progress made.
Here is a picture of the Academy ACAV interior
And here's the Tamiya one
I did some roadwheels. Boring.
One set of roadwheels done
I noticed that this Tamiya figure (middle) wears a backpack, which doesn't look right
I also noticed that the buttpacks in the Dragon kit was very nicely sculpted, but I would need them all elsewhere. Thus I had to make a copy
I built a frame from Lego, in which to cast my mold.
I then used this nifty rubber compound to make the mold. You pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes, it turns liquid, you pour it and Voila! a rubber mold.
Once it's dry, I'll use commercial fiberglass resin to cast a copy. Will update you soon. |

Very Cool Start here. Legos, I see more and more modelers makeing use of them, very creative. Now , I regret giving away a Army footlocker full of Legos since my sons are gone and outgrrown them . Actually I dont really regret it, the kids who got them Love them.
Anyway, I like what your doing here, A very cool choice of vehicles and figures. Keep On modeling, milvehfan |

Thanks, Milvehfan.
Here is a picture of the finished mold. I decided to duplicate a few ammo cans too, as I'll need lots for the 2 Tracks.
Now to start today's work |

TP, the resin is setting in the mold as I write this. Once cured, I'll show some pic's.
Yes the rear ramp will be down on the Academy one as it has the best internal detail. Most of the debussed troops will also be from this Track.
Got some priming done on the interiors and the hulls. Just waiting for it to dry. The new spray booth is a winner! |
